2023 Global Youth Service Day
Youthful Land's Spring Blossom Project
Global Youth Service Day is the longest-running annual youth participation event in the world and the only one that asks youth ages 5-25 to find meaning and purpose by working together for the common good.
Removing The Stigma(RTS) partnered with Cost Cutting Lawn Care for 2023 Global Youth Volunteer Service Day.
Addressing mental health in our youth is extremely important. Why?
According to the CDC, 41.7% of young adults (18 to 29 years) suffer from anxiety.
A Mott Poll report conducted by C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, the University of Michigan in 2022 reported that 9.4% of children in the US have anxiety, and 36% of teens experienced higher anxiety levels during the pandemic.
In addition, a study by Healthy Mind Network revealed 31% of college students have an anxiety diagnosis.
Teaching youth skills that help promote positive thinking, and good mental health can make a difference. Removing The Stigma and Cost Cutting Lawn Care developed a Youth Gardening program called “Youthful Land’s Spring Blossom Project”, the project focuses on facts that support gardening and mental health. “Gardening is a calming activity. A study published in the journal HortTechnology found that gardening can reduce stress and improve mood.
Otis Brown, the owner of Cost Cutting Lawncare, collaborated with Removing The Stigma, and youth volunteers in the community to restore the portion of land at The Chanlder Park Building, located at 17325 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. The area had previously had trees cut down, and it needed to be restored with dirt, grass seeds, and hay.
