What is National Suicide Prevention Week about? It is an annual campaign in the United States to educate and enlighten the general public about suicide prevention and the warning signs of suicide.

Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. It was responsible for nearly 46,000 deaths in 2020. In 2020, an estimated 12.2 million adults seriously thought about suicide, 3.2 million made a plan, and 1.2 million attempted suicide.

In Ohio, according to the Preliminary Data Summary: Ohio Suicide Deaths, in 2019, suicide was the second leading cause of death among Ohioans 10-34 years of age and the 11th leading cause of death in Ohio overall. In addition, although the data for 2020 is not complete, as of July 6, 2021, there were 1,641 suicide deaths reported for 2020.
